Hayfield, The Pack Horse Bridge c.1960

More about this scene
The packhorse bridge over the Kinder River just outside Hayfield is also known locally as the Roman Bridge, but there is no evidence that Roman legionaries used it. It is much more likely to be a 17th- or 18th-century packhorse bridge, used by the 'jaggers' who carried goods by packhorse trains long before the days of metalled roads.
