More about this scene

The farmhouses and cottages all have steps down to the street because the old unmetalled road to Cambridge had been gradually lowered by use. In c1830 a new road skirting the parkland of Hinxton Hall was built, bypassing the village. The nearest cottages need to be re-thatched; longstraw thatch needs to be patched regularly and re-coated every fifteen years.

A Selection of Memories from Hinxton

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our website to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was, prompted by the photographs in our archive. Here are some from Hinxton

Sparked a Memory for you?

If this has sparked a memory, why not share it here?

I remember walking and splashing in the ford with my family.
I was born in 1959 at no 3 Church Green, Hinxton, 3 doors away from the church. I went to this church until I was 6 and I played in the churchyard.
