More about this scene
Horndean began as a result of the 18th-century turnpike road. On the left in this picture is a rather elaborate war memorial, and on the right in the distance is The Ship & Bell Hotel, which stands on the site of the original Gales Brewery. The company began in 1847, and the brewery tower dates back to 1869.
