More about this scene

This was the first commercial building completed in the square to accommodate rail travellers. It was built in 1850 by Joseph Kaye, who was well-known in the town as a merchant, a brewer and the owner of four mills at Folly Hall. He also built the station - a great achievement for a man who could barely write his own name. The George Hotel replaced the earlier George Inn, which was re-erected in St Peter's Street in 1852.

The Move From The Old Infirmary To Huddersfield Royal Infirmary 1966.
I clearly remember arriving at 'Ellerslie' a large detached Victorian house situated in the suburb of Edgerton near Huddersfield. The house had been used as a nurses' training centre by 1960. Huddersfield Old Infirmary.
I did my nurse training in Huddersfield 1966 - 1969. As Huddersfield Royal Infirmary was not due for completion until after I started training, my nursing career began at Huddersfield Old Infirmary, situated in the Industrial Centre of town with its mill chimneys and soot - grimed buildings. Memories Of Summer In Greenhead Park.
As a child growing up on South St in Huddersfield, Greenhead Park continues to hold so many pleasant memories for me. We didn't have gardens or many trees where we lived so the Park was Eden to me. Greenhead Park was close by and we would buy a "Wall's" ice cream before going into the park. Then we would sit on a park bench while enjoying our delicious treat. Damming The Stream
I played here in the 1940/50s for many hours. Damming up the stream to make a large deep pool to paddle in. Under that tree we would hide special pebbles pretending they were jewels. One little friend fell in the stream everytime she went to play. I could also climb that tree, which was not the easiest. Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
