Memories

A Memory of Jaywick.

We (me and older brother and sister), stayed in a relatives bungalow really close to the sea several years.. disjointed but strong memories :-
- pebble dashed walls
- those garden walls made of preformed concrete blocks with patterned holes in
- the sea wall with waves crashing over.. for some reason we took the cat (to show her) and she leapt over my dad's back
- taking the cat and kittens with us on holiday and them playing in the tiny garden at the back of the bungalow, in a washing basket
- sharing a tiny room with my brother (in a bunk bed) and talking late into the night.. getting in trouble
- walking on hot pavements in bare feet to the penny arcade and sea-side toy shop... the stuff in the shop window faded by the light..buying toys in bubble packs from rotating wire racks
- the smell of beach balls
- white bread sandwiches with sand. Tea out of a tarten patterned flask
- hot vinyl car seats on bare legs
- competing for who can get the biggest piece of sunburnt skin off their back, with my brother
- spending all day making 'rafts' out of old wood with my brother (including sails) and then going to the beach and trying them out, and being disappointed that they didn't float at all
- playing around the breakwaters, the smell of seaweed
- never ending days merging one into another, losing track of when the holiday would end
- going out in the morning and popping back at lunch, then staying out again till sundown
