More about this scene
The monument on the left of this photograph was unveiled to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria in 1897. In those days it also supported the B3051 milepost. Interestingly, the mileages have changed over the years. In the picture Overton is seen as five miles and Whitchurch as eight; the present day signpost indicates the former as six miles and the latter as nine! Two AA patrolmen and a motorcycle sidecar combination can be seen across the road.
