More about this scene
At the foot of Langho Fells and in sight of Pendle Hill stands the Saxon village of Old Langho; its church, St Leonard's, was built with stone that came from Whalley Abbey in about 1530. The newer part of Langho, about a mile distant, has developed since the road to Clitheroe from Blackburn was made. York Lane, part of the Roman road to Ribchester, has yielded up Roman coins, and tales linger of the ghosts of Roman soldiers. St Mary's church, a pleasant modern building, is amongst the new estates which have appeared since 1960. The late Jessica Lofthouse, the traveller and historian, lived at Langho.
