It looks quiet here now, but once the market at Leominster was so successful that the cities of Hereford and Worcester were jealous of its success. They persuaded Henry III to force Leominster to change its market day from Saturday to Friday. Even so it was still, in the 16th century, described as 'the greatest market town in the county of Hereford'.

The Broom Maker Of 1862
I am researching my family tree and have discovered that my great-grandfather, Thomas Ashcroft, a besom (broom) maker, lived and made brooms at 122 Mill Street in 1862 before migrating to South Wales. I believe that most of the old Mill Street houses have long since been demolished, I shall visit one day and have look.

Not Great Malvern
There is no corn square in Great Malvern. Have checked the corn market in Worcester and this 'photo is not of that either. Any thoughts?

Butchers Shop
I have a picture of a double fronted butchers shop in the corn market. Over the door it says L.Pugh, outside is the butcher and his wife and probably their daughter Marie.  A family story was that a lad from the family when asked who he was replied "Jack Pugh, Leominster, kill sheep"  I assume there was an abbatoir behind the shop. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
