More about this scene
A few miles away from St Cleer's Well is the King Stone (actually two stones), which is also known as King Doniert's stone. The granite stones date from the 9th century. The inscription is thought to commemorate, erroneously as it turns out, the last Cornish King, Doniert (formerly known as Durngarth) who died in AD870.
