Liskeard, Pike Street c.1950

More about this scene
The fine Guildhall and Italianate clock tower of 1859 dominate the old centre of Liskeard; they indicate the prosperity generated during the mining boom of the mid 19th century. The curved front of the Market Hall, visible behind Boots, was demolished in 1956 and replaced by a new building for Boots. Light streams across the bottom of Pike Street from the narrow Fore Street.
