More about this scene
The site occupied by Castell Dinas Bran may have been fortified as early as the 8th century. The ruins include a large shell keep within a rectangular ward, a twin-towered gatehouse, a large D-shaped tower, and traces of a hall. There are traces of what might be a barbican or a small ward separated from the gate by a ditch. The ditch gave additional protection to the side of the castle thought most vulnerable to a frontal assault.
