The town is most famous now for its annual international eisteddfod, one of the high spots of the cultural calendar in Wales. Most of the year it exists as a busy town on the A5; it has always attracted a great number of visitors, many of them water sports enthusiasts who have come to the River Dee. Today, the bridge here is often thronged with people watching the canoeists below. Perhaps the people on the bridge in this scene are looking at some earlier paddlers.
