There are many wide open spaces around Lyndhurst, where the Forest meets the town. They are good places for a stroll if the depths of the old hunting forest are too daunting. From this one there are fine views over the town.

The Royal Navy
PMX739377 SIR!. Yes. I was stationed in the Grand Hotel during my training in the RN to become an Electrical Artificer,The song I remember most was "Underneath the spreading chestut tree" which was often played in the little cafe in the High Street where we spent a lot of our "shore leave". Our practical work was in a Government Training Centre at Redbridge Southampton, , So we had to be bussed there and back. ...see more

Grand Hotel Missing Archway
My mother says the two white pillars at the entrance to the Grand Hotel once supported an archway. During WW2 the Royal Navy housed sailors in the hotel who were bussed out each day. The bus was too tall to go under the archway and so they decided to blow up the arch. The resulting explosion shattered every window in the hotel and was heard all over the village!

However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
