More about this scene
This view has changed little, although the pub's black and white walls have been painted over. The church beyond is St Michael's, rebuilt in 1901 to the design of Sir Arthur Blomfield, who was also the architect of the Bank of England in London. A memorial in the church recalls John Brownswood - he was headmaster of Macclesfield Grammar School, but he had also taught at Stratford Grammar School when a young Will Shakespeare was a student.
