More about this scene
The Cat and Fiddle pub is one of the highest in England. From here on a clear day the view could be spectacular: the Cheshire Plain with the Mersey beyond. In the 1880s, it was claimed that it was possible to see Snowdon; but if so, the viewer would have needed a high-powered telescope to distinguish it from the Glyders, which lie on the same line of sight.
