More about this scene
Madingley Hall was the home of Colonel Harding - in 1909 he was carrying out an extensive restoration programme. The 16th-century hall was built as a hunting lodge, using a hammer-beam roof taken from Anglesey Abbey after it was demolished. The hall was later remodelled as a mansion house for the Hynde and Cotton families. The very fine 15th-century gateway came from the Old Schools in Cambridge in c1754. Queen Victoria rented Madingley Hall in 1861 while the Prince of Wales was at Cambridge.
