This was formerly the seat of the Hutton family, who produced two archbishops, both called Matthew, of York in 1595 and Canterbury in 1757. Marske Hall was rebuilt c1600 and Georgianised c1730, and behind it is a once-handsome stable block - the Huttons bred racehorses. The photograph shows some of the impressive trees which are a feature of Marske.

Am trying to find out more about above-noted Lady.
It seems she married Frederick Jepson in 1914. He went off to WW1, as a Trench-digger.
When he came back, it is unknown what happened to Catherine. But in 1920, he married Eva Gosling.
There is still a Sturman family in Redcar, owns an Antique shop.

when I was about 8 did stop in the wood at the keepers cottage was very dark
My uncle, Milton Beattie was gamekeeper to Sir James Baird, and he and his wife Connie lived in the gamekeeper's house on the far side of Clints - on the way to Orgate. My mum and I lived in the Hall Cottage, and I went to Marske School where Miss Marriner was the teacher, and we were all taught in one classroom. Home Farm has been in the Simpson family for many generations. My family and I spent many happy holidays over the years with my aunt and uncle, Lena and Maurice Simpson. I have such wonderful memories of haymaking, milking cows etc, and attending the church on a Sunday.
