Why are these different? All 300,000 photographs in The Frith Collection have been scanned, but as the photos were taken over a 110 year period on a wide range of glass & film negatives, using different photographic processes, every image has to be checked and optimised, before we make a print for a customer.

2014 Now A Quality B&B
We have run Bank Villa as a comfortable and relaxing B&B since 2002. Dr Dodd's son has stayed with us and shared his memories. The property is listed so looks very much the same today. Guests love exploring the nooks and crannies of the interior. Many of features can be dated back to the days when there was live in staff.

Memories Of Masham
In the 1950's and 60's, Bank Villa belonged to Dr Dodds, in partnership with Dr Holroyd whose surgery was in Kirkby Malzeard. Dr Dodds' surgery was within Bank Villa. Dr Dodds was invalided out of the Royal Navy having served on the Russian convoy routes, which is why his wife Anne, who herself was the daughter of a senior Navy man, was always very supportive of the Lifeboat Service and fundraising in Masham. ...see more

Memories Of Masham
This photo, looking West South West shows the weir across the River Ure which serviced the former corn/flax(?) mill just downstream and on the far bank of the river. In the 1892 ordnance survey map, The Grotto described the wood named Grotto Plantation. At some stage in the 1920's a house was built there adjacent to the road, and named The Greens, and occupied by the Burrill family. In the 1930's, the weir was ...see more

Silver St, Masham Scene
The Bay Horse Inn would then likely belong to T & R Theakston Ltd, which became a limited company in 1905. Now, 2012, the pub belongs to Greene King plc. The chimney in the background belongs to Lightfoot's Brewery, Wellgarth Masham. The same scene today still has the chimney, but reduced by the top section, taken down before the 39/45 War. All our photos are printed as optimised versions of their originals, this process can take anything from 15 minutes to several hours. This ensures that the product you get shows the true quality that Frith photos are renowned for.

Genealogy & Research Images

Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
