Early Years

A Memory of Morden.

Born in 1957, I was brought up in Hatfeild Mead near the George public house. Went to school, firstly at Willows nursery, then Morden Primary, then on to grammer at Mitcham. Can remember many happy weekends spent in Morden park, especially running up the big hill at the back of the park. Used to walk down to Morden Court Parade every Sunday morning with my dad to get his paper and my shillings worth of sweets, which lasted the week, together with a bottle of fizzy pop. Have looked at the old photos of the town and they bring back so many memories for me. Have been trying to remember all the names of the old shops but can only remember a few. Would love to hear from anyone who can help to fill the blanks.

I lived in Hatfeild Mead from 1954 to 1968. I went to Hatfeild primary school in Lower Morden Lane. Then to Canterbury Rd sec.mod. near Rose Hill. (Famous old boy wad George Cole). I attended Morden Baptist Church joining the Boys Brigade.
