Jarvis Sons Morden Road Morden

A Memory of Morden.

I was an apprentice motor mechanic at Jarvis & Sons from 1957 until 1963, a most interesting time in my life. We had an unofficial motor bike club and did some lovely Sunday runs around the Surrey countryside. It wuld be nice to hear from anyone who was there at the same time as  myself, either from the fitters at the time or from any of the apprentices. A Mr Fullock was the Foreman, he was very strict with us boys, but very fair. I worked with a fitter, a Mr Pat Simms, a Mr Charlie Upfield and others. I was at Jarvis & Sons when the first Mini came on the market, such a long time ago.
If any one is out there, please make contact.

my uncle bill Sandle worked as a cleaner there and I bought my first new vehicle a mini van in 1961 from jarvis
A friend of mine's father worked at Jarvis's before the war and up to his retirement circa 1967 His name was Fred Money, and he modified the MG for Douglas Bader, and maintained it for years DB gave him a copy of the Book 'Reach for the Sky'
I have a photo of the presentation. Fred moved to Dawlish and survived until he was 93, so Jarvis wasn't that bad! John Phillips
Remember Fred Money very well, as I did my apprenticeship at Jarvis & Son in the early 60s. Fred was held in high regard by us apprentices ,his knowledge on cars was phenomenal.
Douglas Bader used to bring in his Alvis convertible regularly for
Fred to appraise.
Also worked with Mick Williams and bought a Triumph Tiger 100 from him while at Jarvis
Hello I joined Jarvis in 1951,worked in various sections ended up at one in the workshop control for Mr. Alf Fullick a firm but a fair man
You mentioned Douglas Bader his MG was a VA and and Fred Mony's mod was the clutch and brake pedals were around the clutch was In the middle and the brake was on the left and the drivers seat runners allowed seat could move back about 18 20 inches so that he could get in and Fred was the only one allowed to drive it, also Fred's office all the technical books and manuals, but you could ask Fred anything and would have the answer. Every name you have mentioned I remember them and more,, I went on into Sales Department and later ended at the Braned showroom
57 Hill Road at the bottom of Wimbledon Hill, and Director who helped me along the way was Mr. Pat Walters, I was with the Firm for 14 years the nicest place I have worked
Cheers to all the old Jarvis people
