Putting ashore the catch is a perennial attraction for bystanders on any jetty. These, judging by the smartness of their dress (complete with pocket handkerchief), are clearly not fishermen. The lantern in the after part of the fishing boat was by this time a legal requirement, as well, of course, as providing light for the men to work by during night hours. The letters SS denote a boat registered in the port of St Ives. The midships wheel, lying fore and aft, was used to make easier the back-breaking task of hoisting sails.

Image 138 Isn't Mousehole
Image 138 sure as hell isn't Mousehole - I've lived here for 25 years and the harbour piers look nothing like this and the seascape to the left bear absolutely no resemblance to Parade Cliffs! I'm absolutely confident that image 138 is of Mullion Harbour, but the slanted pier face has been squared off since 1955. Happiest Days Mixed With Sadness
I fell in love with Mousehole back in 1970 when I came across it quite by accident. My girlfriend and I were staying at a B&B called LowLee which is positioned just outside Newlyn on the clifftop overlooking the sea. Summer And Sadness
It was the summer of 1981 and we had rented a cottage in Mousehole for the summer school holidays. My friend's aunt and uncle lived just across the road and it was through them that we were able to rent the cottage. I took my two boys and my friend took her young son. I Wish I Had One!
This town is where my ancestors started to spread far and wide, beginning in 18th century or thereabouts. Some distant cousins still live there, I'm sure.

Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
