My Mum's Start In Life 1926
A Memory of Nelson.
My mum had the misfortune to be born illegitimate her mum had to go to the workhouse because of the situation, and that's where mum was born! From there she was taken in by her aunties family not knowing the truth, and the sad thing was that she saw her real mum every day but had no idea who she was,she had a rough time, rags and clogs were her day to day cloths then she was put to work in the cotton mill as a 8 year old,12 hour days for a pittance, when she was 16 she was told the truth and so shocked by the situation she left home to become a nurse, and this story has a very happy ending after meeting my dad at the tower ballroom in Blackpool, the start of lifelong love, they moved back to winchester where my dad grew up,and went on to have 5 children and it was a very loving but noisy home, and we are still going strong,so from that poorouse beginnings to a long and happy life, sadly they are both gone and still together and always in our hearts,God bless them both
