What does this mean?

This image is a coloured postcard: These coloured postcards were produced by the Frith company in the 1950s and 60s, in the earliest days of coloured postcard production, and were printed using a process called collo-colour. Although the results look quite basic to modern eyes, used to the wonders of the modern printing process, these postcards have a certain period charm as delightfully nostalgic ephemera items from the not-so-distant past.

New Parks Boys School
I attended this school from 1962 to 1965 and overall it was not a bad experience the head there at the time was Reg Payne and the deputy heads name was Jones. I don't of course recall all the teachers but here are a few; T C Jones (PE/Maths), Mr King (Art), Mr Williams (PE) and Mr Flude (Art - I seem to recall he played saxaphone). New Parks Boys,
I remember well the tennis courts . We were a secondary modern and our tennis courts were very secondary. Holes and gravel with a perimeter fence that had so many holes in it that about 20% of the balls sailed through it only to be punted down the road by a passing car. Whereas the girls' grammer school next to it had new ashphalt, legible lines and a fence strong enough to keep the boys at bay. We had great ...see more

I Remember It Being Built
The building in your picture was called the 'new shops'. I recall going up there with my dad when it was being built. It must have been before 1960 I guess. I was born in 1949. The shops in that block included Boots, Wilkinsons, Forbouys, Greasleys, and the Co-op I believe.

Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
