This picture was taken for possible use as a postcard. In those days the Frith cameraman would be under instructions not to take the picture until the view was relatively free of traffic and pedestrians. The reason was purely commercial: Frith always attempted to get maximum mileage out of their postcards, and did not want anything in the picture that might date it too quickly.
