Goodwood Drive
A Memory of Northolt.
Hi there,
We moved to the Racecourse from the prefabs in Fountain Close. I lived at 15 Goodwood Drive on the corner. Ihad two sisters Sadie and Maureen. My parents were Bill and Emily. They worked at Northolt aerodrome my father for BEA and my mother for the Ministry of Aviation. We also had an Aunt from Glasgow living with us who worked at the American base I think that was in Ruislip not sure. I would have been about 6 when we moved there and left at around the age of 10. I went to the manor junior school. We used to have happy summers there playing on the railway embankment (they still had the odd steamer there at the station) and the surrounding fields. I remember St Vincent's being built, I think my older sister Sadie went there briefly. Did they wear purple uniform blazers? We spent many a night playing in the garden of the Load of Hay where my parents used to drink. I remember there used to be pigs at the bottom of that garden and the man who looked after them was a neighbour of ours called Mr Roberts who had a lovely daughter called Tootsie.
I think the field opposite 15 now has a Church built on it?
We moved from there when my parents relocated from Northolt to Gatwick Airport in 1957 but my memories still go back to those early days on the Racecourse Estate.
