My Early Years In Northolt
A Memory of Northolt.
I was born in 1940 and lived for the first 20 years of my life in Church Road Notholt, my grandfather built the house in which we lived together with many others in that road. I started school in 1945 in a wooden hall behind the Methodist church in Church Road, later moving into classes in the church itself. We were then moved to the old school opposite the Target public house near the roundabout on the Western Avenue; initially we were housed in temporary buildings at the rear of the old school then later moved into the original school buildings. The buildings were old and lit by gas, which I found exciting, there were monitors to lit the gas in the winter afternoons and monitors to fill the ink wells in the old school desks
