The Pheyseys

A Memory of Ombersley.

My name is Wayne Lavigne and while I am a Canadian I do have an attachment to Omberseley. My mother is Patricia Pheysey, one of four daughters of Donald Pheysey and Helen Maude Pheysey.
My grandfather's family originated in Stourpourt but after World War 1 he married my grandmother in Birminhgam. They moved to Ombersley not too long after my mother was born, which was 1921. They lived at Shruberry House.

My three aunts are Margaret (Peg), Pauline and Elizabeth, Sadly Elizabeth, the youngest of the four, passed away last year. She would have been 84 this year.

My grandfather also served in World War 11 and saw service in France (evacuated from Dunkirk) and was in North Africa and Italy. My mother was a cook and served in the NAFFI.

After the war my mother moved to Canada with my sister who was born in 1944. My Aunt Peg also moved to Canada with her new husband and Aunt Pauline went to the U.S. to be with her new husband. She has, even after all these years, remained a British subject. My Aunt Elizabeth moved to Canada several years later.

My grandparents came to Canada in 1960 and he died in 1963 and she passed away in 1975.

The extended family is spread out over Canada and the United States. The four daughters produced 26 grand children and those families have swollen the ranks of Pheysey family.

Perhaps there are a few people in Ombersley who might remember the Pheysey girls.
