This charming village lies within the deep Nidd valley. Here looking down the High Street we see splendid views of Upper Nidderdale. A light railway came from Harrogate in 1862, and was much used during the construction of the reservoirs for Bradford Corporation. On the horizon are the remains of the many lead mines around Greenhow, which provided material for the roof of Fountains Abbey. Two miles out of Pateley are the 1100yd-long Stump Cross caverns, discovered in 1860 by miners. Nidderdale

Pony Holiday At Eagle Hall
I remember staying at Eagle Hall in the early 70's on a pony trekking holiday with my friend. It was a fantastic place for pony mad girls! I remember the lady who owned it was Barbara Edward and she had two lively daughters who took out the rides. I think one was called Vicky but obviously it's a long time ago! Lovely to see this photo. Came upon it while looking for the walk that passes Eagle Hall and loops round through caravan park.

Pateley Bridge, 1955
This view shows the old North Eastern Railway Station at Pateley Bridge, this line from Harrogate, opened in May 1862 and closed to passengers in March 1951, just three years before we went to live in Pateley Bridge, however there was a pick up goods service until 1964. Station Square, Pateley Bridge 1955
I cannot resist bringing more memories of this time to the fore! Just behind the photographer is the fish & chip shop and café, on the right was the bus station and garage, the wood hut behind the van was a mans and boys outfitters. Pateley Bridge High Street 1954
Oh how this takes me back almost 60 years! I came to live in Pateley Bridge in September 1954, as a seven year old, my father had taken up the post of village policeman, PC 906 Goulding, and together with my mother we lived in Pateley Bridge for close on 9 years and this is just how I remember the High Street at that time, how streets looked much wider as a child!

However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
