Researching My Family In Pembroke Dock

A Memory of Pembroke Dock.

As a six year old in 1949 I was taken to Pembroke Dock to visit my Grandparents, from whom we were almost estranged. My only memory of the visit is looking out of the upstairs window above their butcher’s shop and being aware of the window being a ‘floating’ bay window. I have this week, in 2019, revisited Pembroke Dock to try and identify the shop and realise that these strange upstair bay windows are quite a feature.
I know the address was Dimond Street but I had no idea of the number of the property. Having done a bit of census research, I think the shop was at 21 Dimond Street and was a butcher’s shop, and that they had lived at 21 Pembroke Street before the war. I suspect that my father was born in Pembroke Street in 1916, but this is guess work. I have found both properties and have given my memories a little bit of reality.
Someone may know more than I have been able to piece together, the family name is Rees, very common I know - both my grandfather and father were Trevor James Rees.
I last visited Pembroke Dock about 10 years ago and was depressed by how poor it all looked, but this week there was a definite feeling that things are looking up for the town, the buildings were better maintained and painted in up-beat colours. It was very reassuring.
