More about this scene
St Bartholomew's enjoys an elevated position, possibly the site of a prehistoric fort, at the corner of Church Hill and Vicarage Road. The churchyard contains part of a Saxon preaching cross, found buried by the church in 1910. It is said to have been erected by Lady Godiva, whose son Aelfgar owned Upper Penn.
