More about this scene
The church hall, in Rectory Road, was much more central to Pitsea than the medieval church, perched on its hilltop site. The church halls of Basildon played a major role in providing activities for the swelling population. A new church, St Gabriel's, opened in Rectory Road in the 1960s.
