More about this scene
The Bristol & Portishead Pier & Railway was a single broad-gauge line, which opened in April 1867, and connected with the Bristol & Exeter Railway at Bedminster. The pier opened in June 1868 and was soon extended so vessels could use it at low water. From Portishead there was a year-round steamer service to Cardiff and Newport and summer sailings to Ilfracombe.
