More about this scene
The town-village grew up where the Roman Stane Street crossed the River Arun. The church and a cluster of old houses are at the top of the hill, and more old buildings are on the river bank, east and west of the Bognor Road river bridge. Despite being at the junction through which traffic to Bognor pours, this timber-framed cottage survives. The Swan Hotel was replaced in 1961 by an ill-judged stone and boarded giant bungalow of a pub.
