Reading, Caversham Bridge c.1955

More about this scene
Part of the 'deal' whereby Oxfordshire surrendered Caversham to Reading in 1911 was the rebuilding of the sub-standard 1869 bridge. World War I delayed proceedings until 1924, when work started on the reinforced concrete bridge. It was formally opened by the Prince of Wales in 1926, but many do not consider it as beautiful as the Reading Bridge beyond.
