In this view the right hand wing of the Town Hall has been demolished, and Thomas Lainson's 1882 wing can be seen at the left. Lainson was both judge and winner of the architectural competition for the extension! The statue of Queen Victoria was erected to commemorate her Golden Jubilee in 1887.
