Reigate, High Street c.1955

More about this scene
Reigate town is considerably more attractive than Redhill, with which it is now merged by development. It contains some good townscape, but it is somewhat traffic- blighted, more so now than in this 1950s view, which looks east along the High Street towards Market Square. The building with the clock turret and cupola is the old Town Hall of 1728. The town was of some significance in the Middle Ages with a castle, a borough charter, a fine parish church and an Augustinian priory.
