More about this scene
The Gate leads directly to Harnham Bridge over the River Avon. This was an important medieval trading entrance to the city for traders and travellers from the west. The Close constable still locks all Gates every night. Large sections of the wall and the gateways are built from stone brought from the original cathedral at Old Sarum.
