More about this scene
This photograph shows Clarence Gardens. The entrance to the Pier can just be seen to the left of the flagpole. Gardens such as this were an essential part of Victorian life; genteel places to walk were an important component of a holiday resort. Visitors would flock here to enjoy the peace and superb floral displays.
