More about this scene
A busy scene on the Esplanade above The Spa. The motive power of the day - horses - marked their passage quite clearly, and ladies didn't just dirty their shoes; ankle length dresses would easily become soiled. The sheer number of people forces them to use the road rather than the pavement. The hat is de rigeur to both sexes.
