The 19th century house is now a hotel (the Stourport Manor Hotel).
We are looking from the Stourport bridge towards Worcester. The tall chimneys against the skyline have now gone - they belonged to the power station.
Stourport stands where the river Stour meets the Severn; it grew in importance after James Brindley built a canal junction there in the 1760s.
It needed seventy pairs of narrow boats to work the trips carrying coal to Stourport power station.
Soon the place was a hive of activity: basins, warehouses and boatyards were built, and Stourport-on-Severn was born.
When this practice finally died out, river traffic north of Stourport died with it.
