Here, the breakwater on the Gorleston side proves a popular place for holidaymakers to take the sea air and watch the comings and goings of boats in and out of the harbour.
Small merchant vessels and privateers were constructed during earlier times for trade and piracy, though in later years many of the shipbuilders concentrated on building and repairing fishing boats
Numerous fishing boats are moored around the harbour, overlooked by a terrace of picturesque cottages.

These are best seen from boats boarded either at Blakeney or here at Morston, a mile further west.
The cottages are typical fishermen's homes of the time; the stairs led to living quarters, while the ground floors were the fish cellars and boat stores.
The boat is essential to the cottage owner, and so are long wellingtons, because his property has been flooded on numerous occasions.
Below Wroxham, the River Bure flows between several broads that form wonderful boating lakes.
It is also one of the most attractive harbourless villages along the Yorkshire coast.

The ferry boat at Hacking End once took people across for one penny, a long-established custom, so old that it is not known when it began; but in the 1930s the practice finished.

Widened by returning ex-servicemen in 1925 to cope with increasing road traffic, the bridge retained its elegance and here formed a background for the picnickers, boat hirers and other leisure seekers
