Records show that St Lawrence stands on the site of a Christian church dating back to at least 1108.
The font is dated 1626, and the pulpit is also 17th-century. Unfortunately, the rood screen has been restored.
Amesbury dates back to at least 973; it is the nearest town to Stonehenge, and has a population of about 6,000. In 980, Amesbury Abbey was founded for Benedictine nuns.
Piccadilly Buildings on the left date from 1926. Little is changed in this view now, apart from the more stylish modern bus shelters.
On the left all the buildings are timber-framed, although several have later brick frontages: for example the grocer's shop, now Gavin Ashley's, is dated 1835.
Pevsner rightly refers to the house (extreme left) as the finest of its date in the county, designed by William Smith of Warwick in 1697 for Sir Roger Cave.
The first known reference to the chapel was found in a document of 1552, though the original structure probably dated back to the 14th century.
Then comes the HSBC bank followed by a building dated 1789 which now houses Calthop, solicitors. The pub, the Horse and Groom, is followed by the Central Fish Bar.
At this date, the town's tramway system was still horse-drawn, and would remain so for another five years. The town'' cabs represented good value for money.
The neo-Georgian buildings around Central Circus clearly reflect that date, with the somewhat faceless super-cinema following a decade or so later.
The mill dates from the start of the 15th century, when it played its part in the growing weaving trade at that time. During the 1950s it was a popular riverside café.
The church is built of a grey sandstone; the scraping of the interior has left it somewhat dull, but relieved by the royal arms dated 1684 above the chancel arch.
The main village was moved west and south of the Tilling Bourne and out of the park in the early 19th century, but the best buildings date from the 1850s.
The bridge on the left beyond the barge is a cast-iron one dated 1824 and built by the Wilts & Berks Canal Company - the ironwork was cast at Acramans of Bristol.
Slightly superior to many factory houses, with their small gardens, the terrace on the right has a dated stone on the second house: `Built in the year of AD 1897 Victoria`s Reign`.
The massive stone keep dates from a century later. Although owned by the Crown from 1461, it was in ruins by 1538.
The other houses date from the late 19th century. They now face modern bungalows. Vann Road is to the west of the crossroads.
This view, taken from about the same point as ZZZ05124, below, shows the surviving facade of the LNWR's fire station (now a music shop). When it opened in 1911, it was 'very well-equipped and up-to-date
Of all Windmill Land's windmills, the one in Lytham is arguably the most well known, but not the oldest—it dates from 1805.
The town walls date from the 13th century, and Tenby's tight, sheltered harbour and truly golden beach wears a crown of coloured Georgian buildings.
The Manor House, far right, dates from 1743; the original owner was Elenor Ellis.
Hoghton Tower, set on a hill and visible for miles, dates from 1565. King James I beggared the Hoghtons by overstaying on a visit with all his retainers.
He was employed during a restoration of the church in 1851, continuing a family business dating from the mid 17th century.
The checkerboard finish on many of the buildings fronting the square is traditional and, in this case, dates back to the 18th century.
