Riding at anchor to the right of the funnel of the 'Manchester' is HMS 'Southampton', a boys' training ship at Hull from 1867 to 1912.
In the centre of this picture is the Time Ball Tower, used for supplying the correct time to the anchored vessels.
They designed a uniform for formal occasions: frock coats, white waistcoats and fancy buttons with gilt anchors.
