More about this scene

The village is part of the Holnicote Estate, the gift of the Acland family to the National Trust, to which many of the village's thatched cottages now belong - their preservation is thus assured. It was once believed that Sir Thomas Acland built the cottages in 1828, but it has recently been discovered that they were adapted from medieval farmhouses already standing.
