More about this scene
It is low tide, and the swingboats and roundabouts are out of reach of the waves. The two wood and pantile shelters on either side of what was to become Tower Esplanade were useful refuges when it began to rain. The museum ship, the 'Eliza' (right), contained a whale skeleton and other marine wonders.
