This is one of three monuments erected on the Sykes estate; it is directly opposite Sledmere House, and was erected in 1919. Sculpted in Portland stone to the designs of Carlo Magnoni, it commemorates the Waggoners' Reserve Corps of 1,127 local farm workers who joined Sir Mark Sykes' private army as wagon drivers in the First World War. A museum on the estate chronicles their story. Sledmere House was built in 1751, and the park, designed by Capability Brown, was laid out in 1777.
