Resident Of Malpas Road Just Off Wexham Road 1958 1970

A Memory of Slough.

I used the post office many times as a child and teenager. I started my first savings account in 1963 at Upton Lea post office and still have the original book with about 3 pounds 15 shillings on it. I recall it was quite a useful shop as well as a post office and I brought a number of Xmas presents for my family from there, being too young to go into Slough high street on my own. I also often used the Fish and Chip shop that was on the other end of the shopping parade (behind the photographer) near the old Shaggy Calf pub. Looking at the picture, Malpas Road was to the left on Wexham Road about a quarter of a mile away from the post office, I left Slough with my parents in 1970 when I was 16 and moved to Bracknell, Berkshire. I went back to the area in 2018 and was really surprised how little Malpas Road and the shopping parades in that part of the Wexham road had changed considering it was nearly 50 years since I moved. I have fond memories of my childhood, growing up in that part of Slough as it was a great place to live in the 50s & 60s
