South Wigston, Grand Union Canal c.1960

More about this scene
The Grand Union Canal was extended from Leicester to Market Harborough via the dramatic locks at Foxton in 1809. What better place to be when a period of quiet contemplation is the order of the day? The shelter of the great hawthorn hedges, the silent rippling movement of the water and the stillness of the reeds and trees produces that so-elusive sound of silence, often longed for but rarely experienced.
