More about this scene
Since it was gradually absorbed to become a suburb of Royal Tunbridge Wells, this small village south of Tonbridge supported a number of businesses in its commercial centre. Apart from G P Mansell's valuation and estate agency operation seen in the centre of the picture, F Simmons's tailoring concern offered liveries for wealthy households with domestic staff, and cycle suits, reflecting the growing popularity of this pursuit at the turn of the century.
