More about this scene

The herd of dairy cattle is making its way to Hall Farm, which included the former tithe barn dating from the 17th century. The parish council restored the barn in 1985 and converted it into a community and sports hall. The two gables with bargeboards (centre) belong to almshouses founded by Elizabeth Bull in 1634, rebuilt in 1876 and modernised in 1976. Beyond is the village lock-up and Cage House.

Sproughton Wild Man
Did the Wild Man have a celebrity landlord/owner in the late 1950s, early 1960s? We were discussing this today, and I can vaguely remember he had something to do with Billy Cotton?

Childrens Home
1957, I am six years old. I am with my twin sisters who are ten and we are in the biggest house we have ever seen, a mansion with massive gardens, a children's home. The reason we are here is that my mother is in hospital and our father cannot look after us on his own with his work. My parents are now dead, my sisters cannot remember the name of the home we were in nor can I. I do remember the aeroplanes that ...see more

My Younger Years
I was aged six when my family moved to Sproughton 1932 when some new houses and bungalows had been built in a cul-de-sac called Broomfield Common off Church Lane. All of my young years were spent in the village until I joined the army in 1944. I well remember Ned Ginger's very old blacksmith shop where he used to shoe all the farm horses - and there were many in those days - and he would also repair farming ...see more

Post Office And School
The first building on the left was the old Post Office (owned by Mees). Just to the front of this is a small footpath that leads to my Mum-in-Law's (Janet Halls nee Smith) old school. It was also the village hall. It still has the green tin roof..... noisy when it rains!!!!!

Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
